Vegan In Poland: A Quick Overview

As with anywhere, eating out as a vegan (or with any other dietary requirements really) it is all about selection. Some restaurants in Poland I found have absolutely nothing vegan on the menu…maybe a green salad. It is not exactly typical polish food to have tofu or seitan, they’re a lot more fond of meat and meaty soups!

The one thing I keep saying to anyone who asks is that Polish restaurants and supermarkets were generally pretty useless for a vegan, what with the traditional food being heavy on the meat side. However, there were numerous specifically vegan restaurants and even some bio stores and a vegan supermarket which made my travels as easy as vegan pie! Essentially Poland satisfied the extremes of the vegan-non vegan requirements, without filling in the gaps in the middle!

I have made a list of the places I would recommend in each city that I visited and what they had to offer. It is by no means an all conclusive list of everywhere vegan friendly in these places, but it gives an idea of the many many options available!

Warsaw:

Natu Restaurant – One option, maybe two if you asked. They did offer to make exceptions with some of their dishes to suit me, but in the end I just had an organic cider!

Green Cafe Nero – These were dotted around the city as any cafe chain would be! The offered various vegan sandwiches and, of course, soy milk.

Green Bar – Casual and cheap, but very tasty. Great for something quick.

Greta 33 – Not specifically vegan, but everything was made with local and organic produce and there were a few vegan options to choose from.

Restauracja Frida – Great location and amazingly decorated! They have an entire vegetarian and vegan menu with a vegan dessert too!

Train: no luck! Just a coffee or a green tea to keep you going.

Gdansk:

Schopenhauer – Not vegan but advertises vegan friendly.

Restauracja Kos – Again, not entirely vegan but with a lot of options.
